Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, in connection with allegations of fraud and the misappropriation of funds.
The raid, which occurred around 11 a.m., led to the detention of NAHCON’s spokesperson, Fatimah Usara, and three other unnamed staff members.
The operatives arrived with an official warrant of arrest, signaling the seriousness of the operation.
This raid is part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged mismanagement of a N90 billion intervention fund allocated for the 2024 Hajj.
Sources within the EFCC revealed the details to Vanguard, emphasizing the weight of the allegations against NAHCON.
The EFCC’s actions follow a previous raid by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) at the same commission, increasing the scrutiny on NAHCON’s financial dealings.
When contacted for a statement, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale refrained from providing an immediate comment, but assured that more information regarding the investigation and arrests would be disclosed in due time.
