The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared a former Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Christopher Enweremadu, wanted over allegations of conspiracy.
He also alleged of diverting public funds, stealing, and money laundering.
In a statement signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on Wednesday, the commission urged members of the public with information about Enweremadu’s whereabouts to contact any of its zonal offices across the country.
Enweremadu, who served under former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, has previously been linked to investigations into the handling of allocations to Abia’s 17 local government councils.
In December 2024, a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja ordered a probe into the management of the funds between 2019 and 2023 and directed the EFCC to submit its findings.
The court also mandated the seizure of international passports belonging to Enweremadu, Erondu Uchenna Erondu, a former aide to Ikpeazu, and Deaconess Joy Nwanju, a Permanent Secretary in the ministry.
The order followed an ex parte motion filed by an activist who alleged that billions of naira meant for the councils were diverted during the period.
The EFCC did not provide details of the transactions linked to the fresh wanted notice.
