The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Iyayi Omokaro, for allegedly hacking his elder brother, Friday Omokaro, 38, to death during a violent altercation.
Police spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday in Benin City.
The incident reportedly took place in Uzalla Community, Uhunmwode Local Government Area.
According to Yamu, officers from the Ahor Division received a distress call around 3:30 p.m. on March 25, alerting them to a fatal attack involving two brothers.
Responding swiftly, police operatives and local vigilantes arrived at the scene, where they found Friday Omokaro lying in a pool of blood with severe machete wounds.
He was rushed to the hospital but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Officers also recovered a bloodstained cutlass believed to be the murder weapon.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a heated argument between the siblings escalated into a violent confrontation.
In the course of the fight, Iyayi Omokaro allegedly grabbed a cutlass and struck his brother multiple times, leading to his death.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody and reportedly confessed to the crime.
Yamu assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated and reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining law and order in the state.
