            Falcons

By: Gracious Akujobi       The senior national women team, Super Falcons will not go on Easter break, neither will the players be released for this weekend matches for their respective clubs.

Chief Coach of the team, Edwin Okon who disclosed this said that there are still much to do that he could not risk allowing the players to go on Easter break with an international friendly game coming up on April 29.

“There will be no Easter break for any one of us. We shall all do the Easter on the pitch because we want to focus on the matches ahead of us. No player will be released to their club nor be allowed to go on any break

“We would perhaps only go on break after the friendly match against Cameroon. We hope to use the Easter break to strategize and perfect plans for the matches ahead” stated the Rivers Angel coach

He expressed joy at the response of the girls to training over the past three weeks pointing out that having screened and assessed the players over a period, he is now in a position to pick the quality ones then settle down to blending and tactics

The former national under-20 coach stated that he is elated that the team is gradually taking shape adding by the time they square up with the Indomitable Lioness he would know how far they have progressed

“I promised Nigerians that I will build a new Super Falcons and that is why I am happy that we have to play Cameroon before taking on Rwanda in African Women championship (AWC) qualifier. The match will be used to see how they fit into match situations, team work and coordination” he said

The ebony hued coach said the team would appreciate it if the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) can arranged some more friendly matches for the Super Falcons ahead of the match with Rwanda.

Meanwhile all the players who were released to play for their respective clubs last week returned to camp on schedule and this drew commendations from coach Okon who said “My happiness is that none of them came back with injury”.
