The Political Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Babafemi Ojudu has commiserated with the Ekiti State Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, over the death of six of its members and a driver.
In a letter addressed to the state chapter of NMA, Senator Ojudu said he received the sad news with shock, praying for their gentle souls to rest in peace.

Dear Doctors,
Alas! We Have Lost Some of Our Best Doctors in Ekiti
I received with great sadness and heavy heart the news of the tragic death of our illustrious sons in Ekiti who were committed medical doctors and your professional colleagues.
Seven Nigerians dying on our road is calamitous enough. To now think that six of our best in the field of medicine in Ekiti were consumed on the highway, is a tragedy beyond comprehension. It is indeed a big loss!
I learnt that the six doctors and their driver lost their lives in a road travel accident, while embarking on professional journey to represent our state at this year’s National Medical Association Annual General Meeting held in Sokoto. Certainly, Ekiti, my state of origin, has lost fantastic and patriotic men.
I must have come accross some or all of them in the course of my engagements in our state. They were undoubtedly some of our bests brains in the land and we will always regard their demise as a great loss.
Generally, my personal contact with some of these doctors in Ekiti revealed them as hard-working, committed and selfless, despite working under excruciating conditions.
Like many others whose lives they have touched positively, I have many cherished memories of these selfless and committed professionals
and will always remember them. Of particular reference is my chanced meeting with Dr. Aladesanmi which later developed into a relationship. I met Dr. Aladesanmi some 16 years ago. And when about 15 years ago my dad was diagnosed with prostrate blockage, it was him I contacted. For ten years he became the carer for my old man. Even when I was late in paying his bills, he was very understanding and we became friends ever since. Alas we are not going to see him and those others whose lives were lost in the accident any more!
I know that yours is a strong profession and I am sure you can handle this loss with great equanimity. And I know that with the affection and sympathy of us all, their immediate and extended family members will not feel the loss as much they would have.
Once again, please accept my heartfelt sympathy and let us console ourselves with the maxim “God giveth, God taketh.”
May their gentle souls rest in perfect peace.
