Sequel to submission of signatures collected to recall Senator Dino Melaye by his constituents, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on
Thursday, said it would begin verification of the signatures of petitioners.
According to a statement by the National Commissioner and Member, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, the verification will commence on July 3, 2017 of the commission.
Senator Melaye is reresenting Kogi West Senatorial District in the Senate but on Wednesday, te electorates submitted petition to INEC in Abuja, demanding his on grounds of poor representation.
Led by Cornelius Olowo, the constituents of Kogi West, no fewer than 180,500 registered voters out of the 360,000 of them in the senatorial district had endorsed the recall of the senator.
Having acknowledged reciept of the petition, the Commission said after ist meeting on Thursday that “The next step is to verify that the petitioners are registered voters in Kogi West Senatorial District.
“INEC will on July 3, 2017 issue a public notice stating the day(s), time and other details for the verification exercise.”
