A Delta State-based businessman and All Progressives Congress chieftain, Morrison Olori, has appealed to Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as it tackles the current hardships in the country.
“The policies being initiated by the Tinubu-led administration are aimed at pulling Nigerians out of poverty,” Olori said while briefing journalists in Ughelli on Wednesday.
“Such policies will begin to yield results in the near future. The recent foreign trips by President Tinubu to China and other countries will attract foreign investments into the country. Many foreign investors are already here and these investments will soon start manifesting, creating jobs and boosting production,” he stated.
He, however, called on President Tinubu to “lift import duties on food items until local food production is improved”.
“He (the President) should allow food importation for now. Nigerians are hungry. This will help stabilise or reduce food prices because farmers are exploiting the situation to increase prices arbitrarily.”
He added, “Regarding the current situation in the country, President Bola Tinubu is doing his best. Since he became President, he has been working hard to improve the country and its economy. He has been making efforts to revive industries and attract investors. He has visited many countries, inviting them to invest in Nigeria, which we, as industrialists, want. He is pushing manufacturers to employ labour, as private industries are the highest employers of labour. Tinubu is aware of this fact and is doing all he can to bring in investors and boost manufacturing.
“Nigerians should be patient with President Tinubu. From what I am seeing, investors are already in the country, and we local investors are partnering with them.”
On the recent increase in petroleum product prices following the removal of the fuel subsidy, Olori expressed hope that “with the commencement of production by Dangote Refinery and the completion of repair works on the Warri and Port Harcourt Refineries, the current scarcity and price hike will gradually stabilise and reduce.”
“The fuel price will definitely come down with the commissioning of the Dangote Refinery. The government refineries, which ceased operations due to corruption by previous administrations, are set to resume production. The pump price will decrease gradually.
“President Tinubu is sincere and does not intend to impose hardship on Nigerians. There is no need for protests.
Nigerians should support President Tinubu’s efforts to revitalise the economy. There are criminal elements who want their corrupt fuel subsidies to continue,” he added.(PUNCH).
