By Olusegun Lawrence Delegates to the National Conference were on Monday divided over the recommendation made by the Committee on Public Finance that fuel subsidy should be removed.
While those in support of the removal of the fuel subsidy posited it is not benefiting Nigerian masses but few rich individuals, others argued otherwise, saying that the subsidy regime should continue.
Contributing, Ibrahim Idah said there is nothing wrong if government continues to subsidize fuel for its citizens.
Seagent Awuse on his part supported the removal of fuel subsidy saying that most Nigerians are not benefiting from it.
Jonathan Temlong, who also backed removal, noted that people are used to buying fuel at over N100 per litre outside Abuja.
He wondered why the Federal Government would continue to import fuel when we are an oil producing nation.
A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Ahmadu Ali advised against sudden removal of the subsidy, noting that it would cause crisis, advising that removal should be gradual.
