The permanent secretary Ministry of Defence Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana has called on the Nigerian Medical Association and the association of Nigerian nurses and midwives to work harmoniously for a better service delivery.

Dr. Kana made the call when the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives paid a courtesy visit on him on Thursday, June 1, 2023, in Ship House, Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting the permanent secretary said that partnership between doctors and nurses would bring about better service delivery which would translate into a healthy growth of the Nation.

He explained that the Ministry of Defence has repositioned its health sector by establishing only one Armed Forces Medical Corps to reduce the healthcare problems peculiar to personnel during war and the public at large.

He added that the new system would encourage adequate training and retraining of health workers for improved professionalism.

Earlier in her remarks, the chairman of the Association, Abuja chapter, Comrade Deborah Yusufu appreciated the Permanent Secretary for his support and timely intervention in the Affairs of the Ministry’s unit of the Association.

She commended the Permanent Secretary for ensuring that the uniform allowance of the Nurses in the MOD unit was paid for two years, pointing out that they have enjoyed the privilege courtesy the Permanent Secretary.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of an Award of Appreciation to the Permanent Secretary in honour of his service to mankind; hinting that he will also be honoured during the nurses week scheduled to take place soon.
