No fewer than 59,331 accounts have been created by eligible voters within 24 hours that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) launched the first Online Voters Registration portal.
This cheering news was disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja by Barrister Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee.
Okoye in a press statement made available to journalists on Tuesday confirmed that 59,331 accounts were created within 24 hours of the launch of the INEC registration portal; from 7 am Monday, June 28 to 7am Tuesday, June 29).
According to him: “Within the same period, 42,211 applications were received out of which 27,759 individuals applied for new voter pre-registration services; 11, 177 requested for voter review record; 1, 669 applied for voter transfer; 853 asked for information update; 335 applied for replacement of lost or damaged PVCs; while 418 applicants requested for uncollected PVCs.
Okoye said these statistics have been uploaded to the Commission’s website and social media platforms.
