With the spread of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease still not showing any sign of reducing, the Director General of Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and a member of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 Pandemic (PTF), Dr.Chike Ihekweazu Friday in Abuja advocated the renaming of the Social Distancing to Physical Distancing.
Speaking at the PTF daily press briefing in Abuja today, Ihekweazu stated that he will like Nigerians to adopt Physical Distancing rather than Social Distancing because of the rapid spread of Coronavirus.
He argued that Physical Distancing will be more beneficial for the country because of Nigeria’s dense population and the citizens way of life which is mainly by physical interactions.
He also said that the people here live very close to each other hence Physical Distancing is the best option to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.
Dr. Ihekweazu however revealed that Google Mobility Nigeria technology has shown that Covid-19 infection in the motor parks, markets, shopping malls and other public places has reduced by 27%.
He therefore called for the collaboration of State Governors, religious leaders and traditional rulers in the education of the citizens on the advice of health experts in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
