A 40-year-old man, Adeshola Alao, was on Thursday remanded at Kirikiri Prisons by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly robbing a man of his car and an iPhone with a gun.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni, who did not take Alao’s plea, ordered that he should be kept behind bars, pending the receipt of an advice from the office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Dan-Oni directed that the case file should be sent to the DPP and adjourned the case until Oct. 3 for hearing.
Alao, whose address was not provided, is being tried for attempted robbery and armed robbery.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, had told the court that the defendant and others still at large, committed the offences on April 1 at Igandon, near Lagos.
He said that Alao unlawfully had in his possession a pistol with six rounds of ammunition with which he robbed one Adeshola Fatola of his Toyota Corolla car with registration number AKD-195 ES.
“Alao robbed Fatola of his car, valued at N2 million and an iPhone worth N80, 000.’’
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 297 and 299 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297 provides 21 years imprisonment for robbery.
