An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 23-year old man, Adewale Mufutau in a correctional center over alleged assault.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Onah Glory, told the court that Mufutau committed the offence at about 5am on Dec. 31, 2022, at Ilode area, Ile-Ife.
He said that the defendant and others now at large unlawfully assaulted a resident, Afeez Okikiola and conducted themselves in a manner capable of causing a breach of public peace.
The prosecutor said that Mufutau and his allies stabbed Okikiola with knife in his armpit, right feet and waist, giving him multiply injuries.
”They stabbed him mercilessly, caused him several injuries and disturbed the peace in the area,” he added.
Glory further told the court that the defendant damaged a 37.5 gram gold necklace valued at N1.2m belonging to Okikiola.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened sections: 249(d), 355, 390(9), 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate A.O. Famuyide ordered Mufutau to be remanded at the Correctional Centre, Ile-Ife pending the consideration of his bail.
Famuyide thereafter adjourned the case till Jan 16, for mention. (NAN)
