A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered that a 28-year old electrician, Lazarus Anzamber be remanded in the correction centre for allegedly belonging to a cult group that had been terrorising the people of Daudu, Guma Local Government Area.
Anzamber is charged with membership of unlawful society to wit cultism.
The Magistrate, Mr M.K Ayua, did not take the plea of Anzamber for want in jurisdiction to hear the matter.’
Ayua adjourned the matter until April 10 for further mention.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Sgt Isaac Ogwuche told the court that the case was received at the State CID, Makurdi on March 7, 2024 from Operation Zenda JTF through a signal.
Ogwuche said the signal stated that on Feb 18, men of Daudu Police Station led by SP Jonathan Yilkwat received a distress call that a gang of cult members had assembled in Daudu town for cult related activities.
The caller was said to have told the police that the cult members were sighted at a hideout in Daudu, Guma Local Government Area.

Prosecutor said the team stormed the area and arrested Anzamber while others escaped.
He said Anzamber confessed during police investigation to being a member of Junior Vikings Confraternity that has been terrorizing Daudu town and its environs.
Ogwuche said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 11(2) of the abduction, hostage-taking, kidnapping, secret cult and similar activities prohibition law of Benue, 2017. (NAN)
