A Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday ordered that a bar manager, Bright Tochukwu be remanded in a correctional centre for alleged assault and unlawful seizure.
The police charged Tochukwu ,23, who resides in Dutse, Abuja, with joint act, assault, and unlawful seizure.
The judge, Malam Sulyman Ola, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Suleja, until July 14 for hearing after he pleaded not guilty to the allegation.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada told the court that the complainant, Emmanuel Ushi of Zone 7 Dutse Alhaji Abuja , reported the matter at the Dutse Alhaji Police Station on May 13.
Ogada, said that on May 12 the complainant and the defendant had an altercation and he attacked him.
He also told the court that the defendant seized the complainant’s Techno Pop II cell phone worth N 20,000.
Ogada said that the defendant was caught immediately and handed over to the police for proper investigation.
The prosecution said that during police investigation the cell phone was recovered from the defendant and he made a confessional statement.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79, 265 and 256 of Penal Code. (NAN)
