A Gwagwalada Upper Area Court, FCT, on Monday issued a bench warrant authorising the arrest of a businessman, Muhammed Sayeed for allegedly defrauding his employer.
The police charged Sayeed who resides in Gwako village Gwagwalada with criminal breach of trust by servant and cheating.
The Judge, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkarim, issued the warrant, following an oral application by the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Abdullahi Tanko.
Tanko had prayed the court to revoke the bail of the defendant for not appearing to defend the charge against him.
“I revoke the bail of the defendant for being absent without communicating to the court, even when he is aware of today’s date.
“Hence bench warrant of arrest is issued against him and the surety should be serve a notice while the bail bond entered should not be forfeited,” he ruled.
He adjourned the matter until July 17 for hearing.
Earlier, Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Omoniyi Salami, of Kurmi-mashi, Kaduna State, reported the matter at the Gwagwalada Police Station on Oct.1, 2021.
Tanko said that the complainant employed the defendant as a sales representative for New Extension All Round Microcredit Company in Gwagwalada.
He said that the defendant was to disburse and recover money from customers with interest, and remit to the company.
The prosecutor said that the defendant disbursed and recovered N557,400 but converted it to his personal use.
The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 314 and 320 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
