By Gracious Akujobi Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is planning an eight nations tournament for the national U-17 women’s team, Flamingoes in the United States of America.
Director of Technical at NFF, Emmanuel Ikpeme who disclosed this to Prompt News Online says the federation was leaving no stone unturned to making sure Flamingoes get quality friendly matches ahead of their world cup campaign in Costa Rica.
“Flamingoes will play friendly matches with some African countries before they leave for training tour.
“We are working for the girls to participate in an 8 Nations tournament which will take place in the Unites States. We pray this works out so that when they are done with playing friendlies in the continent they will now move to US for the tourney and from there proceed to Costa Rica for the world cup.
“Even if the US tourney does not work out, the programmes we have lined up for them will put them in a good competitive mood before they leave for Costa Rica where I know they girls will give good account of themselves” he affirmed.
Prompt News recalls that Flamingoes picked a world cup ticket on a platter of gold without playing a match as their opponent; South Sudan withdrew from playing the qualifiers.
The world cup which will be hosted by Costa Rica will come up from March 15-4 April, 2014. Nigeria is drawn in group D alongside Mexico, Colombia and China.
