The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported an attempted attack on one of its key transmission towers, T195, located along the Ugwuaji-Makurdi 330 kV line.
The incident took place on Saturday at Watuolo village in the Utonkon area of Ado Local Government, Benue State.
According to a statement from TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the attack was foiled by the vigilance of local residents.
Around 3 a.m., the community noticed suspicious activity near the tower, leading to a swift response.
One of the suspects was apprehended by the villagers, while others managed to flee the scene. The captured individual was subsequently handed over to the police.
TCN commended the prompt and decisive action of the Watuolo community, emphasizing the importance of local involvement in protecting critical infrastructure.
Mrs. Mbah also urged other communities hosting TCN facilities to follow this example and actively safeguard transmission assets in their areas.
“We remain committed to collaborating with security agencies and local communities to combat vandalism, and we call on residents to stay vigilant as they play a crucial role in this fight,” she stated.
