Communications experts have given Public Relations (PR) practitioners insights on how best to navigate reputation challenges, especially in the digital era, in order to achieve huge successes in their various assignments as the image-makers of their principals and the organisations they represent.
Speaking on the final day of a Two-Day Reputation Roundtable with the theme “Navigating Reputation challenges in Digital Era” held in Abuja from Tuesday to Wednesday, February 25 and 26, 2025, Dr. Danladi Nasir Bako in his Keynote Address with the same title as the theme of the workshop lectured the participants on how best to manage reputation.
Bako, a senior lecturer at the Department of Mass Communications at Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, stated that reputation is everything hence PR practitioners should strive hard to navigate the murky waters of reputation challenges especially in this digital era.
The Kooguna of Sokoto Caliphate who went down the memory lane to state how he have been in the business of image laundering of some prominent individuals in Nigeria and working for the campaign organisation of the ruling political party in the country told his listeners that it takes critical thinking to change narratives about someone or something.
Bako touched on national and institutional reputations insists that it is very possible to change reputation while he harped on reputation reinvention, pointing out that it includes that the person must watch his or her attitude; must insist on keeping his or her credibility and must engage on SWOT.
Also, Professor Rotimi Oladele, Team Lead, Itecs Global Associates, Cambodia, in his paper titled “The Dangers of Corporate Arrogance and Brand Myopia, Strategies for Protecting Organisations Reputation”, advised that the key thing is to turn every disaster into a learning curve in navigating reputation challenges.
Stressing on the dangers of Corporate Arrogance, Oladele explained that this can easily lead to power drunk, saying that taming is the most needed adjustable service deliverable by wisdom and courage.
In his lecture titled: “The Complexities of Public Relations Measurement and Evaluation”, PR guru Chido Nwakanmma, CEO, Brandhaus Communications, Lagos, stated that “numbers are the language of business”, pointing out PR practitioners should be much aware of this at all time.
He explained the duties of image-makers, including spokespersons of Chief Executives of government and corporate bodies, saying that they should be mindful of their duties and how to achieve successes.
Earlier in his Goodwill Message, NIPR Acting President, Professor Emmanuel Dandaura, who represented the President, Dr. Ike Neliaku praised the FCT Chapter for putting the event together and called for more of such workshops to update PR practitioners.
In his Welcome Address, Stanley Ogadigbo, Chairman of NIPR, FCT Chapter, thanked the dignitaries and participants who graced the occasion and promised that under his leadership the FCT Chapter of the Institute will continue to soar.
