The Ebonyi Police command has began full investigation into the collapsed popular Metro-View Hotels in Abakaliki to unravel the cause of the incident.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Loveth Odah, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abakaliki that the Director of the hotel, Mr Christian Akanihu, had been invited for questioning by the police.
NAN recalls that Metro-View Hotels Ltd situated at No 2, UNDP Avenue, Presco junction, Abakaliki, on Wednesday evening collapsed.
The Police confirmed to NAN that no casualty was recorded during the incident.
Odah said the state Capital Territory Development Board (ACTDB), Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to governor on Infrastructure Maintenance, Chief Ali Odefa, and some professionals in building were also invited for interrogation.
Odah told NAN that Akanihu was earlier invited for statement by the DPO of the Kpirikpiri Police Division, Abakaliki.
She said that invitation of the hotel Director was for further investigation and not an arrest as being speculated by the public.
“Director of the hotel was invited by the police for statement and further interrogation over the collapsed building and not arrest.
“Also the Capital Territory Board, the SSA and other experts were also on ground for questioning.
“The matter is still ongoing. They are with the police investigation unit now,” Odah said.
