The Super Eagles on Sunday defeated their host, Bafana Bafana of South Africa 3-1 to pick a quarter final ticket in the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Cape Town.
The nation’s home-based Eagles put up a surprise excellent performance having disappointed Nigerians and their fans across the world in their two previous matches against Mali and Mozambique.
A superb left-foot shot by Uzoenyi in the 21 minute put the Eagles on the lead while Enyimba’s forward Ifeanyi Ede increased the tally in the 30th minute via a penalty.
The second half was also very interesting as Uzoenyi again found the back of the South African net when he scored the third goal in the 63 minute.
However, the Bafana Bafana’s Parker scored a goal to console their fans even though it was not enough to still put the host nation in contention at the Championship. Mali picked the second ticket from Group A having defeated Mozambique 2-1.
Interestingly, Chigozie Agbim, who was seen in the previous two matches as a ‘curse’ was the toast of many in Sunday match and man of the match to many.
