By Gracious Akujobi Head coach of Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi Wednesday said he does not yet have a team yet for the CHAN Championship holding in South Africa next year.
Keshi made this disclosure to Prompt News Online, saying time remains his biggest challenge to getting his desired squad for the championship which is billed to kick off January 11, 2014 in South Africa.
“For now, I don’t have a team. I am just trying the players. The real issue is time, the time is too short but we will try to do what we can in the short period we have”.
Justifying why he dropped some players and brought in new players given the short period he has to prepare the team, he explained thus, “The players I dropped are not bad players.
“I don’t need them now because since I don’t have time it is going to take a while to work on them. So, I called up players that are up there a little bit who need just a little push to get what I want from them”.
When asked about his projection for the team, the ‘Big Boss’ as he is fondly called retorted, “Have I ever promised Nigerians anything before going for any tournament or championship”?
“AFcon is different because we had little time to work with those set of players and in this case there is no time some players even arrived last night”.
The Super Eagles gaffer however said the final list of players who will make it to CHAN will be released by the end of December; the stipulated time CAF has directed all Federations to submit their final list.
