After suffering three heartbreaking losses in the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses finally got their hands on the elusive trophy on Sunday night at Stade Olympique de Rabat in Morocco, thanks to a convincing 3-0 victory over debutants The Scorchers of Malawi.
With all the three clinical goals scored in the first half by Marie Gisèle Ngah Manga (22′); Naomi Eto (30′) and Ngah Manga (45+3′) proved to be enough to banish the ghost of falling in their three previous WAFCON finals where they were stopped by the dethroned Super Falcons of Nigeria.
They failed 5-0 to Nigeria in the final in 2004; 2-0 in 2014 and 1-0 in 2016 but the pains have been wiped out with the victory over Malawi on Sunday.
Having finished as runners-up in three previous WAFCON finals, it’s only fair that the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon finally get their hands on the trophy this time around.
Their triumph shows that victory comes with consistency.
