The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to announce the dates for the Men’s and Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON & WAFCON) finals after the Executive Committee meeting holding today in Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to Lux September, CAF’s Head of Television and Communications, who confirmed the meeting to SABC Sport onThursday, the Executive Committee meeting today will focus on CAF football calendar, among other agenda items.
September confirmed that the meeting, scheduled for 5 pm (East African Time) and chaired by CAF President Patrice Motsepe, is expected to provide clarity on several issues especially match schedules as it concerns AFCON, WAFCON and CAF Women’s Champions League 2024.
“The Executive Committee meeting will address various matters, including the calendar and pending issues. We anticipate a lot of clarity from this meeting,” said September.
Reports have suggested that the Men’s AFCON, previously held in January/February 2024 in Cote d’Ivoire, might be moved to December 2025 in Morocco.
September also mentioned that Motsepe has been in discussions with multiple stakeholders, including the European Club Association (ECA), FIFA, and UEFA, to address the congested football calendar. READ ALSO:
