The Sierra Leone Football Association President Isha Johansen has ordered an immediate enquiry into media reports credited to her Director of Competitions Sorey Ibrahim Sesay on matters surrounding the forthcoming CAF elections.
A visibly angered Johansen questioned the authority of Sesay to make a pronouncement on behalf of the SLFA on such a sensitive issue without due consultation.
Apparently, the media reported that Sesay was responding to yet another news report that emerged from Nigeria regarding the purported direction of support of Johansen for one or the other of the presidential candidates.
Johansen attributed the news spread to mischief making by journalists who work in tandem with people who do not have the overall interest of Sierra Leone football, at heart.
She added that this is not the first time the Director of Competitions has granted unauthorised interviews on sensitive issues to journalists who have gone on to make sensational or controversial headlines out of his comments.
“I never granted an interview to anyone as to what direction we are taking in any of the elections. In fact, right at this moment, I am focussed on my own candidacy for the female slot on the CAF Executive Committee and this involves me trying to further put Sierra Leone on a high pedestal in the governance of football in Africa and my protection and desire to raise the profile of the impact of women in football”.
Johansen called on the media and football stakeholders to exercise caution on the sensitive issue of CAF elections and give respect to due diligence rather than using such matters to seek unnecessary publicity or using them as vendetta.
