Determined to dispel the rumour that he does not recognize the power of Nigeria in African football politics, a candidate in this month’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) Presidential election, Ahmad Ahmad flew into Abuja this afternoon (Thursday) to parley with the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF and Sports ministry.
The 57 year-old Madagascan football technocrat landed in Abuja and was received by the NFF 2nd Vice President, Shehu Dikko who accompanied the visitor to the NFF Secretariat in Wuse Zone 7, Abuja.
Speaking later to newsmen Ahmad said he is in Nigeria to canvas for the support of the country, adding that he is overwhelmed by the encouragement he has so far got from countries like Nigeria to go for the CAF top post.
He stated that he was convinced that with Nigeria’s support he will beat the incumbent CAF President, Issah Hayatou in the March 16 CAF election in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Ahmad is about now paying a courtesy call on Nigeria Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung in Abuja.
He will later visit the League Management Company (LMC) in Maitama, Abuja.
