Despite the clearance of the embattled Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, Newsdiaryonline reports that there are still rumblings over his family properties in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.
According to some insiders, some dirty intrigues have been unfolding of late in Nigeria’s federal government.
It was learnt that like the Senate forgery case and the CCT trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki, how to handle the Buratai properties scandal has become part of the unfolding power tussle in Aso Rock, Nigeria’s seat of power.
“There is a cabal in the Villa that has given instructions that Buratai should be cleared. It was this cabal that instructed the Minister of Defence to defend the Chief of Army Staff” Newsdiaryonline learnt.
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Dan-Ali, on Monday issued a statement defending Buratai.
It was learnt that this cabal has been working assiduously to sack the National Security Adviser, NSA, Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd) and the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.
Their crime, it was learnt that they have refused to be part of the deal being carried out within the Presidential Committee to probe the arms procurement during Jonathan’s era.
Monguno and Magu were almost sacked and removed from the committee by the cabal recently, it was learnt.
Furthermore, President Muhammadu Buhari was said to have intervened to reinforce the activities of the arms procurement probe Committee apparently after report of the infighting was brought to his attention.
Shockingly, the instruction which the President Muhammadu Buhari gave that a statement should be issued reinforcing the membership of the presidential committee on arms procurement’s probe has not been carried out because the cabal frustrated it.
Soon after the presidential directive, a powerful member of the cabal was said to have given a counter directive and the presidential order has remained in limbo.
On Monday, Saraki said there is a government within Buhari’s government. But Presidential Spokesman Femi Adesina slammed Saraki’s claims. He said Buhari was nobody’s stooge.
Informed insiders however insist that there is indeed a cabal that has taken charge of affairs. “The fear of the cabal’s leader is the beginning of wisdom” the source said.
Even concerning the probe of arms deal, it was learnt that while a lot of progress has been made on Air Force, Navy procurements, some forces are trying to stall the probe of army procurement for reasons best known to them.
These forces are the ones allegedly responsible for the clearance being given to Buratai.
