The Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his death as a significant loss to Nigeria.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Forum’s Chairman, Governor Dapo Abiodun, by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the governors paid tribute to Buhari’s enduring legacy and lifelong commitment to public service.

“The Southern Governors’ Forum extends its heartfelt condolences to the entire nation over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari,” the statement read. “His death marks a solemn moment for Nigeria and offers an opportunity for reflection on his life of service.”

The Forum highlighted Buhari’s dedication to the country, both as a military ruler and later as a democratically elected president, praising his consistent focus on national development, security, and unity.

“He devoted his life to improving the welfare of Nigerians, confronting complex governance challenges while striving to create a better future for the nation,” the statement noted. “His vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria continues to resonate with millions.”

Acknowledging Buhari’s role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape, the Forum lauded his efforts in promoting democratic values, national cohesion, and stability.

“He was a leader who understood the diversity of the country and worked to foster inclusion and unity among all citizens.
His impact will inspire generations of leaders to come.”

The governors urged Nigerians to honour Buhari’s legacy by embracing the ideals he stood for—peace, progress, and unity.

“As we mourn, let us also celebrate his life and achievements.
