Piqued by recent development in the nation’s judiciary, the National Judicial Council (NJC) has summoned an emergency meeting over the suspension of Walter Onnoghen, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The meeting will be held in Abuja by 10am on Monday, January 28.
Sources told CHANNELS TV that neither Onnoghen, whose suspension has become a subject of controversy nor Ibrahim Muhammad, the acting CJN, will be allowed to preside over the meeting.
Last week suspension and swearing in of an Acting Chief Justice has sparked outrage within and outside the country.
The United States and United Kingdom, in separate statements condemned the action on the eve of general elections, saying it was capable of jeopardising free, fair and credible polls.
However, the Federal Government responded promptly by warning foreign countries not to interfere in internal affairs of Nigeria.
