Nigeria’s national power grid has experienced its first major collapse in 2025, occurring just ten days into the new year.
The collapse has plunged the nation into widespread darkness, leaving many Nigerians frustrated by the unexpected outage.
This incident marks the 13th grid collapse within the last 13 months, highlighting ongoing challenges in the country’s power sector.
Reports indicate that power generation plummeted from 2,111.01 megawatts at 2:00 pm to a mere 390.20 MW by 3:00 pm.
Confirming the situation, The Energy Podcast stated, “National grid suffers major collapse… First in 2025.”
However, efforts to restore power are reportedly underway, with generation reaching 302 MW by 2:40 pm, according to another update.
