The Joint Health Sector Unions on Friday suspended its 84-day industrial action, bringing relief to patients and public health facilities across the country.
The National President of JOHESU, Kabir Minjibir, confirmed the development in a brief message to The PUNCH, stating simply, “The strike has been suspended.”
Findings showed that the decision followed a late-night intervention by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment on Thursday, which led to renewed engagements with the leadership of the health workers’ unions.
The strike, which entered its 84th day on Friday, had severely disrupted services in government-owned hospitals nationwide, leaving many patients without care and compelling others to seek treatment in private facilities.
JOHESU, which represents health professionals in pharmacies, medical laboratories and other allied departments, had insisted that the action would persist until the Federal Government implements the report of the Technical Committee on the adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure, submitted since 2021.
