Everton of England and Super Eagles midfielder, Alexander Iwobi will not play a part in the match between Benin Republic and Nigeria today after testing positive for COVID-19.
Prompt News reports that Iwobi who has been an integral part of the Super Eagles and who also travelled with the team to Port Novo for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier tie against Benin Republic today unfortunately tested positive during the Covid-19 check following the team’s arrival from Lagos by boat on Friday.
Iwobi will also miss next Tuesday’s clash against the Crocodiles of Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Lagos.
But it was not clear where he will be quarantining during this period as no official of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was ready to comment on the matter when contacted as they are focused on the match in Porto Novo.
Meanwhile, two Benin Republic players, Rodrigue Kossi and Jacques Bessan will also miss the match for the same reason.
