Re-appointed Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Mr. Alex A. Okoh has emerged a recipient of the Excellence In Public Service Award instituted by the BusinessDay Newspapers for his sterling performance since assumption of office over four years ago, and the innovation he has brought into the management and execution of the mandate of the Bureau.
According to the Awards Committee, under Okoh’s watch, the Director General along “BPE has embarked on a comprehensive change programme of rediscovery and repositioning that has put the Bureau on a path of discipline, responsible reform and privatisation as well as an effective post-privatisation management regime”.
It also said that the Bureau under the re-appointed Director General’s watch, had embarked on various sectoral initiatives and that at present,”BPE is driving the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), a government to government programme initiated by the President Muhammdau Buhari’s administration aimed at resolving the existing challenges in the Nigeria Power Sector as well as modernization and expansion of the national electricity grid for future power needs”.
It also noted that under Okoh’s visionary leadership, the Bureau is facilitating a comprehensive reform in the Health Sector even as the Bureau is working with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Federal Ministry of Power, the World Bank and other relevant stakeholders in the implementation of a comprehensive Power Sector Recovery Programme (PSRP) to address some of the post handover challenges of the power sector.
A statement by the BPE Head of Public Communications, Amina Tukur Othman in Abuja on Monday, said other recipients at the ceremony include: the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar, Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris and the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria Limited, Mr. Joseph Chiedu Ugbo.
