No fewer than 20 people have been killed following a fresh attack by suspected bandits on Fesken Rafi community in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The latest assault has heightened concerns over the persistent security challenges confronting rural communities in parts of the state.
Reacting to the incident, the Kebbi State Government expressed sadness over the loss of lives and sympathised with the bereaved families as well as residents of the affected community.
A delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Umar Tafida, visited the area on Saturday to convey the government’s condolences and assess the situation.
During the visit, Tafida assured residents that the state government remained determined to address insecurity and protect lives and property across Kebbi State.
He announced plans to deploy additional security personnel and resources to the area to strengthen ongoing operations, restore peace and prevent further attacks.
“We share in your grief and remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Kebbi State,” the deputy governor said.
The Chairman of Arewa Local Government Area, Sani Tela, and the member representing Arewa Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Nuradeen Kangiwa, informed the delegation that the attack occurred earlier in the week and resulted in heavy casualties.
Both officials commended Governor Nasir Idris for the administration’s efforts in combating insecurity and providing support to affected communities.
Traditional leaders, including the Dikkon Kabi, Alhaji Kabiru Sulaiman, who represented the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, as well as the District Head of Bui, Alhaji Abubakar Dan-Malam, also lauded the government’s response.
The monarchs, however, appealed for the construction of a road linking Fesken Rafi to the major highway, arguing that improved access would enhance security response, boost economic activities and improve residents’ welfare.
