By Gracious Akujobi Team Nigeria will depart for Ghana on Tuesday, December 10, for the Beach Volleyball Open Championship organised for ECOWAS member countries.
A total of four players and two officials will join their counterparts from around the region to participate in the championship which will hold from December 13-15.
Speaking to Prompt News Online in Abuja, President of Beach Volleyball and Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) Musa Nimrod says the Federation is positioned to give the players adequate preparations ahead of international competitions.
Nimrod maintained that they would as from February 2014; embark on nationwide tour covering the six geo-political zones as a way of popularizing as well as seeking adequate support for the game.
Continuing he said “Currently Nigeria is number two in Volleyball game in the senior cadre while South Africa top the latest ranking due to their participation in the last Olympics even though we went for a playoff in Russia prior to the London games.
“But when it comes to U-21, 19 and 17, Nigeria is number one in the continent. Talking about the forthcoming open championship, we have engaged our best hands, both males and females and I’m very optimistic that they will do well as this will prepare them for future bigger competitions”.
