The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a suspected notorious thug and armed robbery suspect, Yakubu Mohammed Auwal, popularly known as “World Boy,” over his alleged involvement in a series of violent robbery incidents within the Bauchi metropolis.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, OSP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that operatives attached to the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters arrested the 22-year-old suspect on March 8, 2026, around 11:50am following a distress call.

Habib explained that the suspect allegedly attacked a resident, Shamsuddeen of Anguwan Sarakuna, stabbing him in the lap before dispossessing him of a Tecno POP 5 mobile phone valued at about N20,000.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, linked Auwal to another suspect, Bala Mohammed, also known as “Balagus.” The duo reportedly attacked a woman, Ijeoma Neonye, at Magaji Quarters on March 7 at about 1pm.

During the incident, the suspects were said to have stabbed the victim and carted away an Infinix Smart 7 Plus phone worth N120,000, N280,000 cash, a Rolex chain wristwatch valued at N35,000, and other valuables.

The police further revealed that Auwal had earlier been implicated in another robbery case on February 22, 2026. He and an accomplice identified as Amir, who is currently on the run, allegedly attacked Usama Abdullahi, stabbing him on the left shoulder before stealing his Tecno POP 5 phone valued at N70,000.

The command confirmed that Bala Mohammed has also been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.

According to the statement, Auwal had been widely known for his involvement in Sara-Suka thuggery around the Magaji Quarters, Anguwan Sarakuna, and Rafin Makaranta areas of Bauchi.

He was reportedly arrested, prosecuted, and convicted in 2024 without the option of a fine but later returned to the community.

Items recovered from the suspects include two sharp knives, a pair of scissors, and a Tecno POP 5 phone belonging to one of the victims.

In a separate development, a 24-year-old woman, Magdalene Pius of Gwallameji, reported to the ‘E’ Division Yelwa Police Station that a suspect, Usama Salihu, threatened her with a knife on March 7 at about 6:30am and robbed her of an Infinix Smart 9 phone valued at N125,000 and an Itel keypad phone worth N15,000.

Police operatives subsequently arrested the 21-year-old suspect and recovered the stolen Infinix Smart 9 phone as an exhibit.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
