A police inspector has been killed after suspected bandits attacked travellers in the Shagari area of Katsina State.
The officer, identified as Inspector Isah Muhammad Girkau, was reportedly shot during the attack and later died from his injuries.
According to information shared by Bakatsine on X, the armed men were sighted moving through farmlands towards Sanyin Nawal village in the early hours of the day.
The report said the bandits intercepted some vehicles, robbed travellers and later settled at a nearby pond, where they reportedly bathed, ate food and drank Maltina.
The attackers were also said to have set a motorcycle ablaze before moving through communities around Sanyin Nawal.
Later in the evening, around Maghrib, the suspects reportedly encountered a passenger vehicle while returning from the area and opened fire on the occupants.
Girkau, who was said to have been travelling in the vehicle, was hit by a bullet and subsequently died from his injuries.
