Mr Kola Olugbodi, the Managing Director of Background check International, BCI has said that background check is a potent tool to restore sanity into corporate organizations.

According to him, this is to checkmate wrong hiring and ensuring that they checkmate those who can defraud the organizations.

In his words “Background check is not about hiring at face value, not just employing by what the resume of an individual states.

“For 17 years of pioneering background check operations in Nigeria, we have supported several organizations in eliminating fraud and criminal tendencies amongst their staff.

Olugbodi said a major impact of Background Check International is KYS-Know Your Staff and this is not all about what they said or what they claimed to be but corroborating and verifying the claims.

It is also about knowing more about their staff. This makes organizations know whether the staff has requisite skills to secure employment. Background check also helps ensure that some prospective staff does not have criminal records.

It is also to ensure that those who claim to have work experiences have solid character and proper conduct while they were in previous employment.

Olugbodi asserted further that Background Check has saved several corporate organizations from blind hiring and also making employment decisions with empirical and statistical evidences.

The essence of background check is that the staff who are entitled to secure gainful employment are the ones being employed and not the ones with fictitious records.

” It should be noted that management staff and other supportive staff that assets of an organization are committed into their hands are staff employed without verifying their past work records.

He further enjoined corporate organizations to accept Background Check I as a crucial tool to eliminating fraud and wastage in their systems.

Olugbodi says “ It has become highly important for corporate organizations to see background check as critical tool that will aid corporate hiring. In essence, background check will save organizations from fraudulent and criminally minded elements who create bottlenecks.

He allayed fears about the process by stating that “ Background Check is not about witch hunting. For any staff to be verified, we advise our clients to ensure that the affected staff gives consent to the process.

“We counsel organizations to embark on necessary steps that their action deserves. Everyone should be in the picture of background check. There have been some cases staff taking decision to resign rather than being verified.

“This may be due to fraudulent activities in their previous employment. Background check is not a discrete investigation but it is about verifying public records of institutional data about staff.

“A staff can either give consent or otherwise which means appropriate actions would be taken on verification and authentication of information provided.”
