Nigerian muslims have been enjoined to take advantage of the 2024 Ramadan to seek forgiveness from Allah, saying blessings would be added.
Dr. Adam Akeula, a lecturer in the department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, gave the advice while delivering the 2024 Ramadan Lecture organised by the Muslim Community of the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), Jericho, Ibadan.
The University Don spoke Saturday, March 16, 2024, at FRIN conference hall on the theme: “Social And Economic Challenges In Nigeria: Islamic Views & Solutions.”
He lamented the social and economic challenges facing Nigeria saying as a people we are faced with unemployment, under-employment, rising poverty, inadequate power supply, inconsistent economic policy and high rates of illiteracy.
According to Dr. Akeula, the identified factors have impacted negatively on Nigeria’s social and economic activities.
He said the economic challenges also have consequences on the society as they have resulted in the vices we are experiencing in Nigeria today like kidnapping, human trafficking, money rituals, cybercrime (Yahoo Yahoo), prostitution, banditry & corruption.
The guest lecturer however said there is good news only if we can adopt Islamic solutions to solve our social and economic challenges.
Dr. Akeula therefore, enjoined Muslims to embrace ‘oneness’ by seeing ourselves as one and thus have one another’s interest at heart.
If the country must change for good, he said there must be ‘Justice’, saying in a just society “there won’t be social challenges and there won’t be economic challenges”.
He also said we must all be optimistic that the country will get better rather than exploring the escape route now popularly called ‘Japa’.
Above all, Dr. Akeula, enjoined all Nigerians especially Muslims to turn to Allah, by constantly seeking forgiveness especially in the Holy Month of Ramadan.
According to him, if we intensify in seeking forgiveness from Allah, blessings will follow and the country will get back on the right track.
Earlier in his brief remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Prof Musiliu Olasumbo Ashiru, expressed delight that there are now many muslims among the FRIN workforce unlike many years ago when there were just three and no mosque to pray.
He admonished muslims to always donate to the cause of Allah, no matter how small as they would be rewarded bountifully.
The 12th annual Ramadan Lecture was well attended by members and non members of the Forestry Muslim Community. READ ALSO:
