By Paul Efiong The embattled Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has headed to Supreme Court to challenge the ruling of the Court of Appeal which affirmed the judgement of the Rivers State Election Petitions Tribunal that nullified his election in October.
Mr. Wike’s appeal is premised on seven grounds but no date has been fixed for hearing by the Supreme Court.
The appellate court had on Wednesday upheld the ruling of the Tribunal nullifying Mr Wike’s election as governor.
A five-man panel of the court held that Wike’s appeal lacked in merit as he was not validly elected as governor of Rivers state.
The court therefore, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to conduct fresh election in the state.
But, shortly after the judgement was delivered, counsel to Mr. Wike had told newsmen that his client would appeal the judgement.
Prompt News recalls that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside, had filed a petition at the Tribunal challenging the election of Mr Wike as governor of Rivers state.
Mr. Peterside had prayed the Tribunal to nullify the results of the April 11 governorship elections in Rivers state.
