Apparently not happy with the way and manner he has been attacked of late by members and chieftains of his party, former President Olusegun Obasanjo Monday formally dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reports emanating from Abeokuta, Ogun State capital say that Obasanjo announced his decision to dump the ruling party when he played host to members of the PDP from his Ward 11 in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
The delegation led by the Ward chairman, Usman Oladunjoye visited him at his Hilltop Mansion residence.
Angry Obasanjo was said to have directed the Ward chairman to tear his PDP membership card during the meeting.
The former President also replied the Presidency that accused him of planning to head an Interim National Government in the event that the elections could not hold at the rescheduled dates.
Obasanjo, a former military Head of State was elected President of Nigeria when the country returned to civilian rule in 1999 and served the two maximum terms allowed by the constitution.
However, he has been criticising the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan at every given opportunity, accusing him severally of incompetence and for running the nation’s economy aground.
The latest of such attacks was last Saturday, when he addressed a press conference in Abeokuta, accusing President Jonathan of plotting to cling to power by “hook and crook”.
The Presidency and the spokesperson for the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode have replied him, accusing him also of plotting to cause chaos in order to head an Interim National Government.
