AWKA – Ten sub-committees have been inaugurated on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 to organise the 9th edition of Anambra State Sports Festival.
Inaugurating the committee in the ministry’s Conference Hall, Awka, the Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Dr Uju Nworgu urged the committee members to work for the attainment of successful sports festival.
She noted that the state athletes had distinguished themselves at National and International competitions.
She stressed that Gov. Willie Obiano, was always disposed to encouraging the growth of sports in the state.
The Chairman Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the festival, Basil Eze, who enjoined sports officers at Local Government Areas (LGAs) to mobilise athletes for the festival, promised to organise a credible event.
Eze added that a total of 21 sports will feature during the competition.
He said that while the opening ceremony will be at the Rojenny Stadium, Oba on Oct. 9.
The events are, Boxing, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Judo, Scrabble, Wrestling, Traditional Wrestling, Volleyball, Swimming, Karate, Table Tennis, Tennis, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Kung-fu, Football and Cricket. ##
