From Harry Awurumibe in Awka, Anambra
As an official announcement is still being awaited, the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof Charles Soludo looks good to be declared winner of the November 6, 2021 governorship election and to succeed his party man, Willie Obiano as the governor of Anambra State.
Prof. Soludo, has won 17 out of the 19 Local Government Areas election results declared officially by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as at the time of filling this report late Sunday.
Two other rival political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Young Progressive Party (YPP) candidates Valentine Ozigbo and Senator Ifeanyi Ubah respectively, have won one LGA each just as the result of Orumba North LGA is being disputed while election did not take place in Ihiala LGA.
Prompt News reports that the LGAs won by Soludo’s APGA are: Dunukofia, Awka South, Oyi, Ayamelum, Anaocha, Anambra East, Idemili South, Onitsha South, Njikoka and Onitsha North.
Others are Aguata, Ekwusigo, Orumba South, Anambra West, Awka North, etc.
The local government won by Ozigbo is Ogbaru LGA while Senator Ubah won in his Nnewi North.
Meanwhile, there were some upsets in the Anambra state Governorship Election as some heavyweights fell right at their backyard.
For instance, former Anambra state Governor and ex-Vice-Presidential candidate of PDP in the 2019 general election, Peter Obi lost his Anaocha LGA to APGA.
Also, the Chairman of the PDP Campaign Council, Senator (Iyom) Uche Ekwunife also lost to APGA in her Anaocha local government.
But of more significant, the high-ranking ruling APC member and current Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige of APC also lost his Idemili South LGA to APG.
Perhaps the most surprising is the inability of the incumbent Deputy Governor of Anambra state, Dr. Nkem Okeke, who defected to APC before the election to win his Njikoka local government area for his new party instead he lost it to APGA.
