Community leaders in Ikorodu suburbs on Wednesday commended Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for taking out time to visit the den of pipeline vandals in Ishawo and environs, saying the development would go a long way in boosting the morale of security operatives maintaining peace in the area as well as aid infrastructural development.
The community leaders, in separate interviews, said the visit of the Governor was a confirmation that the government of the day has not forgotten the people of the area, and that developmental projects would soon start in their communities.
Chief Fakayode Adetola, the Araba of Igbo-Olomu in Ikorodu, said the action of the Governor was well commendable as such had never happened before in the area.
He said: “For the Governor to have come to our area, it shows the government recognizes that some people exist in this area and it is well commendable because it has never happened before for a Governor to visit this area.
“We have been hearing that government used to send representatives to visit our area but this time around the Governor decided to come by himself. We are so happy with this development,” Adetola said.
He, however, urged Governor Ambode to fulfill his promise of fixing the roads in the area, saying the people have been subjected to untold hardship as a result of the dilapidated state of the roads.
He also pleaded with the Governor to look into the plight of the residents concerning epileptic power supply.
Also speaking, Mr. Laniyi Olukole, Chairman of Charismatic Pioneer Community Development Association in Ishawo, commended the Governor saying: “We’re very grateful to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his visit. That means he is the people’s Governor and for him to have come and see the state of affairs in this area is very much appreciated. We just like him to keep to his promise to the people and fix our roads as quickly as possible.”
On his part, Deacon Israel Adebayo, General Secretary of Igbo-Olomu Central Community Development Association (CDA) said the visit of the Governor would facilitate security of lives and property and aid development.
He said: “We understand that the Governor’s visit was majorly on how to improve on the security of lives and property in our area and we know that security is very important to any government most especially when you consider the fact that it is only in an environment that there is peace that you can talk about development. So, we believe that for the Governor to have come personally to this area to look after our security, development will follow.
“I also like to thank Governor Ambode for the wonderful things he has been doing in Lagos State and I want to assure him that we are solidly behind him; we are solidly behind the APC-led government in Lagos State and we shall give them maximum support,” Adebayo said.
