Senate President Godswill Akpabio has denied allegations made by suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing her claim that he plotted her assassination as “false and malicious.”
Akpabio’s response came through a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by his media aide, Eseme Eyiboh.
The senator’s denial followed remarks made by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a Wednesday address to her supporters in Kogi State, where she accused Akpabio of collaborating with former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in a plot to kill her in the state rather than in Abuja.
The Kogi State Government has since refuted the claim.
In his statement, Akpabio described the allegation as baseless and aimed at tarnishing his image.
“This outrageous accusation is not only false but a complete fabrication and a deeply irresponsible and dangerous attempt to provoke public unrest, attract media attention, and discredit the person and office of the Senate President,” he said.
He also referenced a past allegation of sexual harassment previously made by Akpoti-Uduaghan, which he said she abandoned without explanation. According to him, her latest claim is part of a broader pattern of misinformation and character assassination.
Akpabio also linked the issue to a similar accusation by former Senator Elisha Abbo, who in 2023 publicly retracted his statements and apologized after acknowledging his claims were incorrect.
He noted that Abbo’s removal from office was due to a ruling by the Court of Appeal, which found he was not validly elected to represent Adamawa North.
“These coordinated attacks, in timing and tone, appear politically motivated and are likely driven by undisclosed interests aiming to undermine the Senate’s leadership,” the statement said.
Akpabio stated that he remains undeterred and that legal steps are being taken.
Letters demanding public retractions, apologies, and compensation for alleged reputational damage are reportedly being prepared for both Akpoti-Uduaghan and Abbo.
