The on-going regional auditions of the season two of the Nigeria’s Got Talent reality show have rounded off in the south-south city of Port Harcourt as well as Enugu, South East Nigeria. This brings the number of cities already covered to four with Abuja and Calabar having played host to the auditions train.
At the Port Harcourt audition, Xscape Centre which hosted the audition proved a haven of sorts as thousands of hopefuls flooded the venue in a bid to secure selected spots in the third phase of the on-going regional auditions.
The event, which held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, witnessed an impressive display of talents from magicians, dancers, comics, singers, rappers, fire-eaters, acrobats and many more talents who came armed with only one mission in mind: to make it to the prized theatre auditions scheduled to hold in Lagos.
Several acts displayed enormous talent worthy of praise; one act though left the judges mesmerized at their gracefulness and level of professionalism. The Amazing Dancers, a dance group comprising children aged between 2 and 15 earned a standing ovation from the judges and resounding applause from viewers.
And not giving up on their dreams of winning the grand prize were a few hopefuls from the debut season.
“I know I have a very different and unique talent that wasn’t really appreciated last season. I have gone back to my drawing board to sharpen my skills so as to impress the judges this season, especially Dan Foster,” says Melani a contestant who plays the saxophone with the aid of her mouth and fingers.
The situation was not different at the Universal Hotel, Independence Layout venue of the Enugu auditions as participants in their hundreds trooped out to avail themselves the opportunity on offer for a journey to stardom.
Meanwhile, the Airtel NGT auditions train is expected to berth in Asaba, Delta State on October 19 before leaving for Benin, the Edo State capital on October 21. Ibadan will play host to it on October 23 and Lagos on October 26 and 27, 2013.
It would be recalled that the maiden edition of the Nigeria’s Got Talent was won by 9 year-old, Amarachi Uyanne from Benin City who performed as a dancer all through the competition.
Asides from South Africa, Nigeria is the only African country to have purchased the franchise. The Got Talent franchise has produced many notable performers in the last couple of years including Diversity, Bianca Ryan and Britain’s Got Talent’s 2009 1st runner up Susan Boyle, whose debut album became the fastest selling UK debut album of all time, selling over 3 million copies in the U.S amongst others.
The franchise currently in its 9th year is one of the fastest growing international franchises, closing the gap on other successful franchises such as ‘The Weakest Link’, ‘The X Factor’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ amongst others.
