The Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Robert Ewa, has passed away. His death was confirmed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill.
Ewa died on Wednesday evening at the Arubah Specialist Hospital in Calabar, shortly after attending the state’s executive council (exco) meeting presided over by Governor Bassey Otu.
According to Gill, Ewa actively participated in the exco meeting and made contributions before excusing himself.
“Ewa was present at the executive council meeting yesterday. He even contributed during discussions,” Gill said.
“A few minutes later, he excused himself. We later learned that his driver took him to a clinic, but he was eventually taken to a hospital. It was there that the news of his death reached the governor.”
The governor reportedly received the news with shock and has promised to release an official statement.
Before his role as commissioner, Ewa held various leadership positions, including serving as Secretary and Chairman of Boki Local Government Council, Special Adviser on Community Relations, and Secretary of the Anti-Deforestation Task Force.
