Chadian referee Alhadji Allaou Mahamat has been appointed as the centre referee for Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Madagascar, Prompt News Online reports.
The 40-year-old official is an experienced CAF referee, having handled matches in competitions including the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and the African Nations Championship.
Mahamat is no stranger to the Super Eagles, having officiated two of Nigeria’s matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
He was in charge when Nigeria defeated Rwanda’s Wasps 1-0 at home, before also overseeing the Super Eagles’ 2-1 away victory over Lesotho in South Africa.
Mahamat will now take charge of Nigeria’s AFCON 2027 qualifying opener against Madagascar’s Barea on Friday.
The Super Eagles will host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo as they begin their campaign for a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
