Benin Republic captain Steve Mounie has expressed disappointment with the team’s failure to beat Nigeria.
The Cheetahs and Super Eagles battled to a thrilling 1-1 draw at the Felix Houphet Boigny Stadium.
Mounie claimed Gernot Rohr’s men deserved more from the keenly contested encounter.
“It is not a bad result in itself. Now we will have to go and play this final in Libya. It is certain that at 1-0, we would have hoped to win this match,”he said after the game.
“We had very clear chances to kill the match. When you play against Nigeria and you do not kill the match, that is how it is.”
The Cheetahs will now need to beat Libya in Tripoli next week Monday to guarantee a place at the AFCON 2025 finals.
The forward believed that the task is achievable even though he admitted it will be tough.
“We agree on the pitch that it is a fight. They also want to play for their qualification. We know that it will not be an easy match. We will have to have strong nerves,”he added.
