The Super Eagles held their hosts Benin Republic to a 1-1 draw at the Felix Houphet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan on Thursday night.
Augustine Eguavoen’s side started the game strongly but conceded after 16 minutes.
Centre-back Mohammed Tijani nodded home Junior Olaitan’s corner kick for his first international goal.
Benin Republic had other chances to double their lead but failed to utilise them.
Victor Osimhen also came close for Nigeria a couple of times.
The Fenerbahce striker rescued a point for the visitors nine minutes from time nodding home substitute Moses Simon’s superb cross.
The Super Eagles, who have already qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations are now assured of first position in Group D, having amassed 11 points from five matches.
They will face Rwanda in their final qualifying game next week Monday.
